FISHERMANS BEACH HOUSE

Fishermans Beach at Collaroy. Two very tall hoop pine trees frame the view to Fishermans Beach and the ocean beyond and form part of the character of the house.

The house responds to the coastal edge with a sinuous roof line that echoes the line of the cliff face. The higher areas below this roof line are above the main living areas, then the ceiling gently decreases in height as you approach the kitchen and dining area. This area looks out over Fishermans Beach and towards the surf. This lowering of the roof line also allows for more northern light for the neighbour on the southern side. This is the more public part of the house looking out towards the ocean and public park.

The relationship to the beach and parkland gives the house a strong connection to the broader coastal landscape of Collaroy. The changing roof line and ceiling height reinforce this connection as the house moves between more intimate spaces and the expansive outlook towards the ocean.
