CASTLECRAG HOUSE

This new house explores ideas of space and light versus heaviness and connection with earth. The steep block allowed for a house that had separate spaces both inside and outside to allow for privacy and separation. This allowed distinct areas for the older and younger children.

The siting of the building allowed views over the house to Middle Harbour as well as a view corridor down the northerly side of the house. The lower levels relating to the earth are constructed of off-form concrete. The upper level is constructed using lightweight steel elements and finely detailed timberwork. The house echoes the elegant and slender forms of the surrounding bushland.
